I know I always come back super excited after having read a good book and I always say that I loved it but every time I say it is because it’s true! I absolutely loved it! I was obsessed and could hardly put it down. I listened to the audiobook version and I would take it everywhere with me. I have found that audiobooks are the perfect way to balance reading for pleasure and reading for work. My favourite part of my commute was easily listening to this book for the past week or so.

Cows is about 3 unique and totally unrelated women, all of which in some way have connections with each other. The three women are: Cam, a independent woman who takes huge pride in her work; Tara, also very independent but riddled with anxieties and a great sense of humour; and finally, Stella, a grieving woman who tries to find her peace with her trauma. I really loved all the characters in different ways, although I found Stella harder to relate to. One thing all the women had in common was that they were all in some way and at some point totally unapologetic, and I think that is a reflection of O’Porter as a writer and a person.

This is definitely a modern feminist novel and I absolutely loved that. It was not the stereotypical ‘burn your bras’ feminism, but the lived in feminism. The feminism that is inevitably riddled with hypocrisy, because humans in and of themselves are hypocritical.

I don’t want to even begin telling you the story of these three marvellous women because that would take away most of the fun. All I will say is that it is a must read and because of this I have just purchased Dawn O’Porter’s newest book ‘So Lucky’.
