Dear Lily is about a 30-something year old woman – Joy – that decides to totally uproot her life in London and leave for Copenhagen, Denmark. It is a charming, heart-warming and hilarious story about how Joy copes with moving to a totally new country and culture, all the whilst trying to figure herself out too. I cannot tell you how many times I laughed out loud reading it! The book deals with all the usual stories about heartbreaks and friendships, but what’s really remarkable is the relationship Joy has with her sister Lily. The whole book is structured in letters, mostly Joy writing them to Lily, which makes you feel as though you are actually reading into someone’s most inward thoughts.
I truly enjoyed reading this book, avidly taking it in whenever I got the chance! It is a classic chick-flick with a little twist, which makes it more realistic. Life happens and we all move on, even from the toughest moments and this book definitely shows you that. I can’t say much more because I don’t want to give anything away but what I can say is that you should definitely give it a read! I would especially recommend it to anyone who is a regular chick-flick reader!
